Food Drive and Teddy Bear Toss a Success

The Gift of Kindness accomplished two main projects during the months of November and December.
We had our food drive and teddy bear toss on the night of December 4, 2009. It was a very successful day as we donated over 140 teddy bears and many many tubs of food to the local Christmas Cheer Board.
For the food drive, we split up our class into four groups. We had helpers from the school drive around town so we could keep dropping food off that we collected into the back of their trucks. We each took an area of town. The food drive started at 3:30 and finished at 6:00pm.
We planned our teddy bear toss to take place at the hockey game against Birtle on Dec.4 starting at 8:30pm. Our class all worn white Husky jerseys to show that we were all supporting the Gift of Kindness project. Teddy bears were to be thrown at the first Hamiota Huskies goal. It was not long before teddy bears covered the ice. Our class came out on to the ice to collect all the teddy bears into garbage bags. We then had to take the teddy bears back to the school to dry off. With the amount of all the teddy bears and food, we could barely walk into the student council room. The amount that we had collected was overwhelming.
The Monday after the hockey game, our class got together to organize the food and teddy bears. We personally loaded a truck and went to donate it to the Cheer Board. We felt a great amount of gratitude as we handed the food and teddy bears over. We put smiles on many people's faces this Christmas season.
We would like to thank the businesses that allowed us to keep collection boxes in their buildings. Also, a big thank you to all of the people that donated food and teddy bears. We felt that the food drive and teddy bear toss was a huge success for our Gift of Kindness project.

Start a chain reaction; promote the gift of kindness!

For The Gift of Kindness project Jenna and I contacted all of the local radio stations and they will be advertising our events for us! We have already heard them mention it and they will continue to do so until we are done! I've also been in contact with a couple businesses in Kenton whom have allowed us to put collection boxes for the food drive in their facilities!

The Gift of Kindness Project

The Gift of Kindness Project is part of our Student Voice Project that our grade twelve class is doing. The Gift of Kindness Project includes a food drive around Hamiota prior to the teddy bear toss at the HCI hockey game on December 4, 2009. There are donation boxes in Hamiota and surrounding areas to drop off non-perishable foods or toys. We are going to collect the
So far, I have made the phone calls to Hamiota businesses to make sure it was okay for our class to drop off donation boxes in their store fronts. I have helped make posters for the teddy bear toss, and dropped off boxes at some of the businesses and organized for our class to be able to wear the old hockey jerseys at the hockey game.

The Gift of Kindness

The Gift of Kindness is a project that the Grade 12 class will be doing over the course of the year. Kindness is a small thing but can go along way when acting kind towards others. So far, we have planned for a food drive December 4th, a teddy bear toss at the hockey game December 4th, and food boxes have been put out around surrounding communities. Later on, we hope for a speaker to come in and to volunteer our services for an organization. My job so far for the Gift of Kindness has included e-mailing the radio stations to put an announcement on about our project, hanging up posters around the school, and assisting getting the food boxes ready.

Gift of Kindness

Kindness is very important so as a class we decided to share our kindness with as many people as possible. We have ideas like teddy bear toss, food drive and lending a helping hand at places needed. With everyone sharing a small bit of kindness, it can make a world of difference.

I have created small posters with friends to put on the food hampers that we have placed in the school, and in businesses within the community.

The Gift of Kindness

We are going to have a teddy bear toss at one of our hight school boys hockey games. Everyone is going to bring a teddy bear and throw it on the ice when the boys score their first goal of the night. We will collect all of the teddy bears and give them to the less fortunate kids so they will have something for Christmas. Without this, a lot of children would be very disappointed on Chrismas day to find they have to gifts. A teddy bear will mean everything to them. One of the other things that we are also going to do is make food hampers from all the food that we collect from people around the community. This way people will have food to help them celebrate the holidays.
