Start a chain reaction; promote the gift of kindness!

For The Gift of Kindness project Jenna and I contacted all of the local radio stations and they will be advertising our events for us! We have already heard them mention it and they will continue to do so until we are done! I've also been in contact with a couple businesses in Kenton whom have allowed us to put collection boxes for the food drive in their facilities!

The Gift of Kindness Project

The Gift of Kindness Project is part of our Student Voice Project that our grade twelve class is doing. The Gift of Kindness Project includes a food drive around Hamiota prior to the teddy bear toss at the HCI hockey game on December 4, 2009. There are donation boxes in Hamiota and surrounding areas to drop off non-perishable foods or toys. We are going to collect the
So far, I have made the phone calls to Hamiota businesses to make sure it was okay for our class to drop off donation boxes in their store fronts. I have helped make posters for the teddy bear toss, and dropped off boxes at some of the businesses and organized for our class to be able to wear the old hockey jerseys at the hockey game.

The Gift of Kindness

The Gift of Kindness is a project that the Grade 12 class will be doing over the course of the year. Kindness is a small thing but can go along way when acting kind towards others. So far, we have planned for a food drive December 4th, a teddy bear toss at the hockey game December 4th, and food boxes have been put out around surrounding communities. Later on, we hope for a speaker to come in and to volunteer our services for an organization. My job so far for the Gift of Kindness has included e-mailing the radio stations to put an announcement on about our project, hanging up posters around the school, and assisting getting the food boxes ready.

Gift of Kindness

Kindness is very important so as a class we decided to share our kindness with as many people as possible. We have ideas like teddy bear toss, food drive and lending a helping hand at places needed. With everyone sharing a small bit of kindness, it can make a world of difference.

I have created small posters with friends to put on the food hampers that we have placed in the school, and in businesses within the community.

The Gift of Kindness

We are going to have a teddy bear toss at one of our hight school boys hockey games. Everyone is going to bring a teddy bear and throw it on the ice when the boys score their first goal of the night. We will collect all of the teddy bears and give them to the less fortunate kids so they will have something for Christmas. Without this, a lot of children would be very disappointed on Chrismas day to find they have to gifts. A teddy bear will mean everything to them. One of the other things that we are also going to do is make food hampers from all the food that we collect from people around the community. This way people will have food to help them celebrate the holidays.

the gift of kindness

at our school their are a few of us that went and talked with the school principal to make sure that we could do the things we had planned. Our first idea was to have are teddy bear toss and our food drive posted on our school sign to inform people driving by about the date and the location. We then made poster pages to put on the boxs that were collecting the bears and food to inform people where it was going and when it was being collected.

My job

At our school a friend and i incharge of putting news up on the bill board. after this weeks meeting we decide to put some news up about of what we are doing. we are doing a teddy bear toss and food drive and we put it up on the sign. as we go on we will put fresh news on the bill board.
I have made flyers for the Teddy Bear toss on the December 4th Hockey game.

How it started

The Grade 12 class at Hamiota Collegiate is leading “The Gift of Kindness” project this school year. At the beginning of the school year, the group of 25 students was approached by staff to ask if there was anything special they would like to happen during their senior year. The students were given time to hold a collaborative brainstorming session and discuss ideas of how they might want to make a difference in their school, local area or global community. The ideas they put forth are the basis for developing this project.

Ideas put forth by students to promote kindness in their school, community and school division were:
• organize a teddy bear toss during a high school hockey game and distribute teddies to less fortunate children during the holiday season
• collect food to make hampers for less fortunate families and distribute them during the holiday season
• host a speaker (preferably from the Rachel’s Challenge program) to encourage everyday acts of kindness
• spend one day away from school, volunteering for an organization which benefits others

Watch for more posts as our project develops!
